Mary Elizabeth Cline, 95, died December 14, 2020. Born August 2, 1925 in Carroll County, Missouri, to Ray and Julia Hall, she was one of eight children, and the last surviving sibling.
Raised on a farm in northwest Missouri, Mary found her way to Kansas City after high school graduation and worked in the aircraft industry during World War II. It was there that she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Cline. They were married August 25, 1947, and soon settled into a home in Westwood, Kansas. Two children were born: Rick (1950) and Debbie (1953). Mary was a fulltime homemaker until the children reached middle and high school age. She then began part-time work for RMF Steel in Kansas City, Missouri, a position she enjoyed for many years until her retirement.
One of Mary's many gifts was hospitality. She regularly hosted family and friends for meals or game nights. She loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed watching sports, and passionately followed local sports programs like the Kansas City Royals (and before that the Kansas City A's), Kansas City Chiefs, and KU basketball.
Mary will also be remembered for her faith. Faith played an important role in her family as she grew up on the farm in northwest Missouri; that carried over into her marriage. In more recent years she was a member of the Overland Park Church of Christ where she and Bob were involved in the benevolence ministry of the congregation and active in the senior group (SWOOP).
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son-in-law Alan Miller; and granddaughter Jessica Nemechek.
She is survived by son, Rick Cline (Lou Ann) of Wichita, Kansas and daughter, Debbie Miller of Overland Park, Kansas. In addition, there are three grandchildren: Jason (Emily) Miller of Mwanza, Tanzania (East Africa); Melissa (Dan) Cummins of Washington, D.C.; and Shannon (Mark) Solis of Overland Park, Kansas. Mary was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 22, 2:00 p.m. at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens. The family will be available at 1:00 p.m. for a time of visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are encouraged to Christian Family Services , 8249 W. 95th St., Suite 107, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
