Mary Cray Smith

Mary Catherine Cray Smith, 82, died on Sunday, April 15th at Aberdeen Village, Olathe, KS.
Mary was born to John and Mary Gertrude Cray on November 16, 1924 in Buffalo, NY. She married Stanley J. Smith in September 1950, and they had three children. The family lived in Erie, PA, before moving to Overland Park, KS in 1968. Stanley Smith passed away in March 1974. Mary retired from the Accounting Department of Royal-Sun Alliance Insurance in 1990. She was an active member at both Holy Cross (OP, KS) and Holy Trinity (Lenexa, KS) Catholic parishes. Mary loved to dance to any kind of music, to sing in the church choir, she fulfilled a life long dream of traveling through Europe in 1989 and visiting Ireland in 1991, and she was especially joyful at being at grandmother. One of her greatest achievements was graduating with an Associates Degree in Business from Johnson County Community College in May 1986.
Mary is survived by her immediate family - Steve and Kathy Smith (OP, KS), Chris and Beth Smith (OP, KS) and Regina Smith (Lenexa, KS); and three granddaughters - Theresa Smith, Jennifer Smith and Stephanie Smith ? and a host of family and friends.
The Smith family would like to acknowledge the superb and loving care that the staff at Aberdeen Village and Hospice Care of Kansas gave to our mother. Throughout the four years of her difficult illness, they cared for her with respect, a needed dose of humor and, most importantly, with dignity.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas, 15329 W. 95th, Lenexa, KS, 66219. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19th from 6-8pm, rosary at 7pm, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS, 66210. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 20th at 10am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Old Stone Chapel, 9130 Pflumm Road, Lenexa, KS, 66215. Burial will be immediately following the service at Resurrection Cemetery, 83rd & Quivira, Lenexa, KS.
