Mary Johnson

Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 93 of Overland Park, KS passed away at home Tuesday January 7th, 2020.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Thayne Johnson, sister Dorothy Pearson and brothers Ralph, Kenneth and Lewis Bentley.  She is survived by children Candace Lynn Kempf (David, deceased) and Thayne Clinton Johnson (Julie), seven grandchildren and nineteen (soon to be twenty-one) great grandchildren.  Mary was born in Danville, Ill to Ross E. and Mary Helen Bentley. She was an accountant with the Federal Highway Administration retiring in 1991. She was a long time member of Overland Park Christian church where she served as a Stephen minister. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Prairie Rose chapter, a past member of the Toastmistress Club and volunteer at several hospitals.   Mary was fiercely independent all of her life. She was a compassionate friend, patient listener and loving wife and mother. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. Visitation will be Saturday January 18th at 1 pm, Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Service and burial to follow at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Overland Park Christian Church Congregational Care.
