Mary Ann Flood, age 66, passed away July 18, 2007 from injuries received in an automobile mobile accident.
She was born July 5, 1941 the youngest child of Harrold and Anna (Byrnes) Flood in Miami, Florida
Mary graduated from Edison High School in Miami and attended Georgia Baptist School of Nursing, receiving an RN degree, and later, her BSN. Mary enlisted in the Air Force as a Flight Nurse, spending 2 years active duty and over 20 years in the Reserves, retiring with a rank of Lt. Colonel.
After finishing her active duty, she worked as a Nurse in Iowa, then moved to Texas where she continued her education, attending Texas Women's University receiving a Masters in Education. In 1972 she moved to the Kansas City area to take the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, where she taught Psychiatric Nursing and she also taught in the Graduate Nursing Continuing Education Outreach Program. After retiring from KU, Mary enjoyed her retirement donating her time to help others by participating in Meals on Wheels, and volunteering for the Shepherd's Center. She loved to travel, read, play cards, and spend time on her computer.
She was preceded in death by mother, father, and step-mother. She is survived by 3 brothers, Larry (Indiana), Joe (Georgia), Mike (Florida) and a step-sister Joann Norton (Arizona.) She also leaves her longtime friend Sherri Roderick of the home, and a host of other friends and family.
She was a warm, giving, and kind woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be Monday, July 23, 2007 from 6-8 p.m.. Memorial Services will be Tuesday, July 24 2007 at 2 p.m. All services will be at DW Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. Cremation.
