Mary Evelyn Geissel was 104 years old when she passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2013, in Overland Park, KS.
Mary was born July 5, 1908, in Gower, MO, to Jacob and Edith Bretz. She grew up in St. Joseph, MO and married William "Bill" Geissel on Aug 10, 1929. Together they owned the Geissel Cleaners in Kansas City, KS. Mary was a devoted mother and "Nana" to her son and many grandchildren. She saw history change tremendously in her lifetime yet never failed to keep up with the times. She was a beautiful seamstress, ballroom dancer and the "best cookie baker" in the universe!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, of 68 years; sister, Mildred Means; brother, Louis Bretz; parents; and great great grandson, Will.
Mary is survived by her son, Lewis (Terry) Geissel; granddaughter, Karen (Bill) Chadwick; four great grandchildren, Rae-Ann, Rachel, Sean and Ryan; and four great great grandchildren, Averie, Ben, Owen and Jude; and nephew, Robert Bretz (Gretchen).
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Lamar Court Assisted Living, 11909 Lamar Avenue Overland Park, KS. A private interment will take place at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS.
