Mary Ellen Jackson, 86, passed away comfortably at Aberdeen Village on March 10th. She was born July 11, 1923 in Bloomington IN to Maurice Shirley and Edith Roberts Shirley as the 2nd of three daughters. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School 1941 and Butler University 1944 in Indianapolis.
Mary Ellen met the love of her life, James E Jackson, in high school but WWII postponed their marriage until 1946. The marriage of 63+ years resulted in 5 children, 10 grandchildren & 3 great-grandsons.
Jim started a 40 year career in Argo IL at Corn Products. Promotions took the family to England and several cities in IL and KS. Mary Ellen was devoted to family and church, most recently at Grace Covenant Presbyterian. She was partner, wife, homemaker, helper, teacher and friend to all. Her catch phrase was “Do good work!” and the extended family continues to carry this challenge with them everywhere they go.
She was known for her loving nature that warmed and uplifted everyone she touched. Her smile and blue eyes captivated all she met. She is survived by her loving husband and extended family. They all miss her dearly and strive to carry the legacy of her love and nurturing spirit.
Memorial service will be held at Grace Covenant Church at 11am Monday, March 15th. In lieu of flowers, donate to Good Samaritan Fund, Aberdeen Village 17500 W 119th St, Olathe KS 66061.
