Mary Kautz, 80, of Overland Park, KS, died at Shawnee Mission Hospital on March 20, 2012.
She was born August 10, 1931 in Gering, NE to Irvin Elmer and Justina Clara Earles. She attended school at Nine Mile and Scottsbluff, graduating in 1948. She began her telephone career with the Platte Valley Telephone Company in Scottsbluff and, after the company went through many name changes, she has transferred to the Midwest office in Kansas. She retired from Embarq after working for 47 years. She was a member of Cross Points Church and a member of the Overland Park Host Lioness Club and the American Woman's Association. She held many positions in each organization and she was named Woman of the Year of the Overland Park Host Lioness Club.
Remembering Mary is her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph "Tony" and Sheral, sisters and spouses; Betty and Don Seger of Scottsbluff, NE, Jean and Jerry Bridges of Tonapah, NV, Faye Holdeman of Hastings, NE, and Doris and Charles Haas of Scottsbluff. Mary also shared special times with her niece Vanessa Fuchs and family and nephew, Matthew Haas and family. In addition, she also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, including Patty Kay, and nephews, including Dick and Bobby, Jr, and their families. So many other relatives called her "Mom" or "Grandma." So many friends and acquaintances have been touched by the grace and love of this woman.
Greeting Mary in Glory were her parents, two brothers, George and Jack, three sisters, Thelma York, Grace Zeiler, and Phyllis Shore, and two half-sisters, Dorothy Slyh and Marcelyn Wayman, and numerous other family and friends.
In her passing from Earth to Glory, she did not go quietly into that goodnight. Instead, her legacy of love, strength, and dedication continues on in everyone who knew her, shouting to the world, "I lived, and made a difference!"
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 30th, 6-8 PM, at DW Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel. A memorial service will be held on the following Saturday, March, 31st, 2:00 PM, also at Johnson County Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Points Church, 6624 Lackman Rd. Shawnee, Kansas, 66217.
