Mary "Dee" Meadows, 75, of Lenexa, Kan., passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007, surrounded by her family.
Dee was born on Nov. 11, 1931, in Kansas City, Mo. The youngest of three children, she was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Jewell Cover; her sister, Norma Jean Meadows; and her husband of 52 years, Donald C. Meadows. Dee graduated from Southeast High School where she sang in the choir, played several instruments in the orchestra, and wrote the music and lyrics to the school song On Southeast Knights. In addition to her family, Dee's real love and passion was music. At the age of four she began sharing her gift of music entertaining people with her piano playing, which continued throughout her life. Dee and her husband founded and operated the family business Meadows Optical for over 30 years. Previously she was an administrative assistant with Research Medical Hospital, Mission Hills City Hall, and Lindy Thompson Law Firm. In her early adult years, she was a member of Paseo Methodist Church, where she was active in the choir, sang in a trio and frequently played the organ an as well as participated in many other service oriented activities in the church. She will be deeply missed and remembered for her laughter, smile, sense of humor and unconditional love she had for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dee is survived by her beloved children and their spouses, D. Michael Meadows and wife Patty, Diana Greening and her husband Jim, Julie Darlene Goodman and her husband Danny; seven grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; her brother, Richard Cover and wife Darlene; and many other loving family members and very dear friends.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at D.W. Newcomer's Son's Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin two hours prior to service times in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Olathe Medical Center Hospice.
