Mary Dolores (Wilson) Neese 1930-2017
Mary Dolores (Wilson) Neese died on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017. She was 86. Growing up as one of 12 children of Belva and Marie Wilson on a farm near California, MO gave her a lifelong love of nature and particularly the Missouri woods. She was salutatorian of her 1947 California High School graduating class and then attended Warrensburg State Teachers College. After teaching grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse for two years, she headed to Kansas City with sister Shirley (Wilson) Neese. In 1952 Dolores married Paul L. Neese, Jr., which introduced her sister Shirley to Paul’s brother Jack Neese, and they were married two years later. Dolores and Paul were married for 53 years until his death in 2005 and had 3 children. After spending many years as a fabulous mom and grandmother, she went to work for the Jones Store in Prairie Village (now Macy’s) for 14 years, retiring at age 82! She loved word games, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, tending the flowers and trees in her yard, finding birds’ nests and Monarch butterflies, any food with Morel mushrooms, travel (especially family road trips), reading a good book, and the KC Royals. She is survived by sisters Joyce Wells, Shirley Neese, Carol Tuttle, Judy Barbour, Virginia Strickfaden, and Lynda Gray, and brothers Arthur Wilson, Belva Wilson, Jr., and Stephen Wilson; daughter Cheryl (Sherry) Neese Kriegshauser (J. Scott), son Michael Neese (Karen), and daughter Laurie Neese Roe (Shawn); grandchildren Amy Kriegshauser Seiders (Chris), Alison Maki Alexander (Kendall), Christina Maki Linville (Adam); Emily Kriegshauser Johnson (Mike), Douglas Neese (Jennifer), Zachary Kriegshauser, Bradley Neese, Derek Roe, Cassandra Roe, and Samuel Roe; and great-grandchildren Nathan and Riley Seiders, Summer Alexander, Charles and Simon Linville, and Walter, Henry and Oliver Johnson. She will be forever missed. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House in appreciation for their excellent care at the end of her life. A visitation for friends and family will be Friday, May 19, from 6-8 pm, Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park, KS. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday May 20, 11 am, at Colonial Church in Prairie Village, 7039 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS. Interment will be at Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO.
