Mary Ellen Ransom nee Boyd passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011. She was born on July 12, 1923 in Ft. Worth, Texas, the daughter of Mary M. (Hess) and J. F. Boyd. After graduating high school at age 16 from a class of nine in her hometown, Post Oak Texas, she began her higher education which included attending Vanderbilt University and Baylor University where she received her nursing degree with honors.
Mary Ellen died peacefully in her sleep after being with her family on her last day.
She was preceded in death by her husband Milton D. "Randy" Ransom. She is survived by her sons Boyd Douglas (Nancy), Kansas City, Kansas, John M. (Karen) Phoenix, Arizona; daughters Jeanne Fletcher, Overland Park, Kansas and Terry Shepherd , Raytown, Missouri; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mary Ellen was a loving and supportive matriarch of her family. She was dignified and graceful; always a teacher in life's lessons. Mary Ellen loved to play bridge and thoroughly enjoyed her many bridge friends. She spent numerous hours during her illness enjoying sports and game shows and shared her enthusiasm with her family. Mary Ellen was an avid KU basketball fan and an unflagging booster of the Chiefs and Royals.
Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will be held at 3:00 P.M. Burial will be held at a later date in the Oakwood Cemetery, Jacksboro, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to Harvesters, The Community Food Network 3801Topping Ave., Kansas City, MO 64129.
