Mary E Smith passed away at Good Samaritan Skilled Nursing Center on October 26, 2015. She was born in Osawatomie, KS on October 1, 1920. She attended Kansas State College of Pittsburg where she met fellow student George D. Smith. They married on January 1, 1943 and remained married until George passed away in December 2014.
Mary spent most of her married life in Mission/Leawood, KS area until they moved to Sun City West, AZ after retirement. They lived in Arizona for 25 years while they enjoyed traveling throughout the US, Europe, Australia, Hawaii, riverboat cruises as well as cruises to the Caribbean. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, bridge, other card games and needlework.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was active with the Girl Scouts, Women's church groups and several positions with the Christian Churches (DOC). She was a member from her youth until her death. She was most recently a member of the First Christian Church (DOC) in Olathe.
Due to macular degeneration, which started in 2000, her eye site began to get progressively worse. They decided it was time to move closer to family and in 2007 they moved from Arizona to Cedar Lake Village in Olathe, KS.
Her parents Floyd and Gladys Jacobs predeceased her as well as a sister, Margaret Bailey and brother Lester (Sonny) Jacobs. She has two sisters Gertrude Vess, Osawatomie, KS and Billie Lou Bryant, Wichita, KS. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She leaves her daughters, Marilyn Jean Smith, North Kansas City, MO; Lynda Borel from Littleton, CO, and her son Russell D. Smith and his wife Martha Carpenter Smith.

A visitation will be held Friday October 30 from 10-11AM with a service to follow at 11, all at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.
