Mary Josephine (Frick) Thompson, 71, of Overland Park, passed away Nov. 16, 2015 at Research Medical Center. She was born July 20, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo. She married the love of her life, Russell, on New Year’s Eve 1966.
Mary, who graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (for the first of her many degrees), worked until she and Russell moved to Detroit, Mich., and they welcomed the birth of their first child. She filled her years with being an amazing woman of strength, world traveler, friend and wise confidant to many, and a student of the world that never stopped learning. She would give her left shoe for anyone who needed it, her generosity and support knew no bounds.
She was the perfect mom for each of her children, and grandmother extraordinaire to Nicholas and Brooks, whom she loved more than life itself.
She is preceded in death by her husband and her sister Norma. She is survived by her sons, Jonathan and Daniel, her daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Andrew Wheeler, as well as her two grandsons, Nicholas and Brooks Thompson. She is also survived by her brothers Howard and Gottlieb James (AKA Frickie), and nieces Debbie Petersen and Allison Frick.
