Mrs. Mary Yessen
January 6, 1921 — October 18, 2015
Mary Ruth Yessen, age 94, passed away on October 18, 2015 at a nursing home in Olathe, KS.
Mary was born in Sedalia, MO on January 6, 1921 to Edwin D. McMullin and Myrtle E. Parker McMullin. Mary was one of 6 children. On March 6, 1940 Mary married Carl Raymond Yessen also from Sedalia. They met at church and he always said when he sat in the choir and saw her come in for the first time with her family he knew he knew she was someone very special. They moved to Kansas City in 1961 and raised their family in Overland Park while actively involved in their Church, Nall Avenue Baptist. Carl and Mary were a true example of a couple devoted to one another and celebrated 74 years of marriage. Mary was a wonderful Mother and her strong character and Christian ideals made her a role model that will not soon be forgotten to all who knew her.
Mary is preceded in death by sisters Naomi Price and Edna Wills, a daughter Martha and husband Carl. Mary has 4 surviving children; Nancy (Dale), Schwartz, Curtis (Susie) Yessen, Sara McQuaid and Julie (David) Stewart. She has 12 grand children and 15 great grandchildren.
Services for family and close friends will be Saturday October 24 at Nall Avenue Baptist Church, 6701 Nall Avenue, Prairie Village, KS - 10:30 Visitation, 11:00 Memorial Service, private burial following at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland, 8900 State Line Rd., #320, Leawood, KS 66206.
