MARYLYN SUE KELSO

Marylyn Sue (Dalton) Kelso, 77, of Olathe, KS, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 16, 2010, following a long battle with renal disease. Visitation will be Monday, September 20 from 4 to 5pm at DW Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf followed by memorial services at 5pm. Private inurnment to follow at a later date.
Marylyn was born on June 27, 1933 in Ft. Smith AR. to James and Blanche Dalton, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Wichita East High School and received her BSN from the University of Kansas. She met and married the love of her life, Leslie Clyde Kelso, on June 13, 1954 and they were blessed with fifty-three years together before his death in 2007. One of her greatest accomplishments during her long life was raising her four children, instilling in them a love for both music and the out of doors. During her life, Marylyn spent many years as both a Girl Scout Leader and head of the Shawnee Mission West Band-Aides. Following her husband’s retirement, they traveled throughout the world, seeing all 50 states and 6 of the 7 continents. She especially loved the time they spent together in Ft. Myers Beach, FL, and the countless friends they made there.
Marylyn was a long-time member of the Valley View United Methodist Church, including its bridge group, couples group, and Faith UMW Circle. Marylyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Bernhardt, Overland Park, KS., daughter Susan Brown, Overland Park, KS, daughter Donna DeLeon, Overland Park, KS., son and daughter-in-law Mike and Robyn Kelso, Eudora, KS., 9 grandchildren, 1 grandson-in-law, and many friends who will cherish her memory.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Huseman, the staff of Johnson County Dialysis/DaVita and Aberdeen Village for their care and compassion these past few months.
