Maudress Osa, age 93, passed away on August 9, 2014. Maudress was born July 17, 1921 in Warrensburg, Missouri to William Emerson and Maude Surbaugh Stratton. She graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1939. In 1941 she entered Saint Luke’s School of Nursing in Kansas City, graduating with a diploma in nursing in 1944. After graduation, she was the supervisor in the newborn nursery at Saint Luke’s Hospital for three years and then worked for a pediatrician for three more years.
She met Willard Ray Osa in 1946 and they were married in 1947. She retired from nursing when their first child was born in 1951. They had two more sons. She worked on the election board, held office in the P.T.A., was children’s director in their church and also worked with the Boy Scouts serving as a den mother for several years. She returned to nursing in 1964 as a floor duty nurse at Shawnee Mission Hospital where she worked for 20 years, retiring in 1984.
She and her husband moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1996. Willard passed away in 2005. Maudie returned to Olathe, Kansas in 2006 where she moved in to Cedar Lake Village, a retirement community.
Survivors include one brother, Michael Stratton of Dunlap, IL; three sons Steve of Denver, CO; Doug of Olathe, KS; Larry of Phoenix, AZ and their wives; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at College Church of the Nazarene, 2020 Sheridan, Olathe, KS. Interment will follow in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
