Maurice Wagner, 88, of Overland Park passed away on Monday evening, September 19, 2011. He has joined his wife of 55 years, Patricia, who passed away in 2005. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, also in the chapel. Entombment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Together, Maury and Pat had two children; Debi (Tom) Apple of Olathe and Rick (Pam) Wagner of Crane, Missouri. They also had three grandsons; Brent Wagner and his wife Heather of Emporia, Max Apple of Lawrence, and Sam Apple of Manhattan; and three great grandchildren, Addy, Riley, and Larkyn Wagner of Emporia. Watching those grandkids participate in sports was a joy in his later years. There are seven grand dogs who will also miss him.
Other than his family, Dad was most proud of his military service during the Second World War and his having reached the 32nd degree of Freemasonry. He was an avid golfer for most of his life, and was on many bowling teams with Mom. He loved to tease Mom about her love of Chicago Cubs, but we knew he was secretly a fan as well.
During his life, he had resided in many places, but always considered Peru, Indiana his home. It was there he met and married his wife, and there his strongest family ties remained. He spent the majority of his working career with General Motors Corporation, having retired in 1987. From those years he had many friends, coworkers, and associates.
We ask that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the USO or American Alzheimer's Association in his name. Fond memories and condolences for the family may be left at www.johnsoncountychapel.com
