Maurice L. Walker, 87, Overland Park, KS, passed away December 9, 2011 at Aberdeen Village, Olathe, KS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at the Valley View United Methodist Church, 8412 West 95th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212. After the service, the Family welcomes friends from 12:30 to 2:30 PM Dec. 27 at the Stratford Place Clubhouse, 121st & Quivira, Overland Park, KS.
Mr. Walker was born August 18, 1924 in Poplar Bluff, MO, son of Louis and Myrtle Walker. He Graduated from Washington High School, Kansas City KS and married Beverly Doran on October 24, 1944. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, surviving the crash of a PB4Y-2 Privateer on 22 March 1945 for which he received a Purple Heart.
After World War II, Mr. Walker served as a rural mail carrier in Kansas City, KS until retiring in 1985. After his retirement, he rejoined the summer work force in the Lake Quivira KS Golf Course. He and his wife Beverly spent also many happy winters with family and friends in Mesa AZ. Throughout retirement, he enjoyed boating, fishing, horseshoes, golf, and service to others, including delivering Meals on Wheels to those in Overland Park KS.
Mr. Walker was preceded in death by parents and brother Charles Walker. Mr. Walker is survived by sister Alberta Beust Reading KS; wife of 67 years Beverly Walker Overland Park KS; four-legged companion Molly; daughter Susan Walker of Faith Village Olathe KS; Son Scott Walker and daughter-in-law Margaret Walker Overland Park KS; granddaughter Stacy Walker Sullivan IL; grandson Marc Walker and his wife Jennifer Gilchrist Walker, and great-granddaughter Sage Walker, all of Madison WI.
