Melba Springgate

September 22, 1922 — June 20, 2015

Melba Gladys Springgate, 92, Overland Park, KS, passed away June 19, 2015.

Born August 7, 1922, in the German farming community of Mount Sterling, MO, she graduated from Golden City, MO, high school and moved to Kansas City where she began her career at The Travelers Insurance Company and then worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator at the Chevrolet Leeds Plant for 18 years. She married Clinton Springgate in 1963 and instantly became the mother to 2 young girls who needed her.  With her love and guidance, the new family moved forward together.  Clinton and Melba recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.  Melba was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, volunteered for the American Cancer Society, and was an assistant Girl Scout leader.  She will be remembered for her quick wit, inner strength, and selflessness.  Her strong but gentle nature endeared her to all who knew her.  She was a beloved wife, incredible mother, and devoted grandmother.  In a fit of giggles one night with her granddaughters she said, “I don’t ever want to leave this world, I’m having too much fun in this one!”

The family expresses their thanks to the exceptional caregivers and staff at the Forum of Overland Park.  We are forever grateful for your competence and compassion.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 23, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200
Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.  Visitation at noon followed by service at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of your choice.
