MELVA GRACE (STONES) HENDERSON, age 81, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013. She was born on August 3, 1931 in Lebanon, KS to her parents, Thomas Stones and Gertrude (Myers) Stones.
Melva was the youngest of two children. She attended Lebanon High School and graduated in 1949. She married Ralph M. Henderson in Kansas City, MO on February 21, 1953. They had two children. She was a long-time resident of Overland Park, Kansas for over 50 years. Melva was a member of Overland Park Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, bowling and going to sporting events.
Melva will be remembered by her loving children: Dr. Scott (Patty) Henderson of Columbia, MO and Lisa Henderson of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Brian of Cambridge, MA and Matthew of Rapid City, SD; her sister, Thelma Rose of Castro Valley, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 1991.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013 at Overland Park Christian Church, 7600 W. 75th Street, Overland Park, KS 66204. The family will receive friends before the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Overland Park Christian Church or Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145.
