Melvin (Mel) W. Clausen passed away January 2, 2013, at Kansas City Hospice. He was 85 years old. Mel was born in Turton, South Dakota. He graduated from Ashton, South Dakota, High School and earned his bachelor's degree at Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, South Dakota. He was a Korean War Veteran. He worked for Mobil Oil Corporation until he retired. He was a resident of Overland Park, Kan. He is survived by Maryann (Bruckner) Clausen, his wife of 57 years; his daughter, Marcia (Robert Riedel); his son, Thomas (Sasha Hodgson); and his grandsons, Andrew Lamkin, Matthew Lamkin (Meghan) and Cameron Lamkin, and Kurt Hodgson; his great granddaughter, Morrison Lamkin; his sister, Melba Siebrecht; and a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jurgen and Edith Clausen, and his sister, Wilma MacDonald. Mel was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather whose kindness will long be remembered by all who knew him. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park.
