Merle Thompson

Merle D. Thompson, age 75, born February 17, 1934, passed away at Menorah Medical Center on May 20, 2009. Merle served in the U.S. Army from September 1956 to September 1958 and was honorably discharged from Redstone Arsenal U.S Army Missile Command, Huntsville, Ala. Merle retired from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad after serving 44 years with the communications department. Merle was a winter Texan, thoroughly enjoying friends made during travels to San Benito. Merle also enjoyed RV traveling to many destinations throughout the U.S. during his retirement years.

Merle is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosemary of the home; son Stephen (Gina) Thompson, David City, Neb.; daughters Cynthia Thompson, Shawnee, Kan., and Cena (John) Gribble, Olathe, Kan.; four granddaughters, Katie and Kylee Thompson, Harlee and Addison Gribble. Merle was preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Thompson, parents, Arthur C and Leota Thompson, brother Lester Thompson, sister Evelyn Schuman, and an infant brother, Arthur C Thompson.

Funeral arrangements handled by D.W Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Kansas and Rhodes Funeral Home, Brookfield, Mo. Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Friday, May 22, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. A service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the chapel. Graveside services at 4 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, in New Cambria, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association of the Kansas City metro area and/or New Cambria Missouri Cemetery Association, c/o Linda Maddox at Bank of New Cambria.
