Michael Jeweler

Mike was born in Kansas City of a Greek-American mother and an Asia Minor industrialist father and was raised in Salonica, Greece.  He graduated from Greek public and private schools and is an alumnus of Anatolia College of Salonica.  He attended the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC) on Victor Wilson and AHEPA scholarships where he earned a BBA Degree in Marketing and, subsequently, earned his JD Degree.  He was subsequently admitted to the Kansas Bar, US Military Court of Appeals, and US Supreme Court.

Following graduation, he served active duty in Army Civil Affairs and Military Intelligence units.  Subsequently, he became a senior partner in the Kansas City law firm of Cashin, Jeweler, and Blake.

In 1962, Mike received his appointment as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with initial assignment in Tampa, Florida.  That same year, Mike married the love of his life, the former Peggy Kallos, and embarked on what would be 56 years of blessed holy matrimony.

Other assignments brought Mike and family to Washington, D.C. and Kansas City.  He spoke several languages, including Greek, Italian, and French, and attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, graduating with honors upon completion of the French and Italian-Sicilian language courses.

At FBI headquarters, he was a Supervisor in the Intelligence Division.  In 1977, he was designated Legal Attaché to the US Embassy in Rome, Italy, covering Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Israel, most of the African continent, and Persian Gulf countries, including assignment to the Pacific Rim.  He had subsequent assignments to the Middle East and with the Intelligence Community in Washington, D.C.

Upon retirement from the Bureau, Mike joined Intertel, a Washington-based internationally-known management security consulting firm and rose to Director of Foreign Operations and Vice President of International Affairs.  He also served as Corporate Manager of Asset Protection with SBC Communications, Inc., with world-wide responsibilities for corporate security and risk analysis, and as a consultant on terrorism matters and police training in the Mediterranean.  Mike later became a consultant on international and domestic corporate security matters with affiliates covering over 100 countries.

After years of serving his country in various capacities and with distinction, Mike decided to answer a higher calling by attending the Hellenic College – Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology Diaconate Program in Brookline, Massachusetts.  On April 1, 2012, Mike was ordained to the Holy Diaconate by His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, in Kansas City, Missouri.  Deacon Michael served faithfully at the Church in Kansas City and, following his and Peggy’s relocation to Northern Virginia in 2014, continued his service at Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Falls Church, Virginia.

Mike was active in—and a big supporter of—the Scouting program.  While in Rome, he served as a leader to the local Boy Scout troop, which sons James and John were members of, and proudly saw both sons attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

Mike valued his time with family more than anything and enjoyed opportunities to travel the world with them.  During his tenure as Legal Attaché, the family traveled to a good portion of Western Europe as well as to Israel and Egypt.  In 2012, he took the family on a memorable trip to Greece in celebration of his and wife Peggy’s 50th wedding anniversary.  In 2018, he took the family on a cruise to Europe, which included stops in Italy, Spain, and France.  The latter trip afforded Mike and his family the opportunity to visit Rome, which included a meaningful visit at the US Embassy where he was stationed for five years.

Mike’s affiliations include the National Society of Former Special Agents, FBI; Association of Former Legal Attachés; FBI American Legion Post, Washington, D.C.; Overseas Security Advisory Council, US Department of State; American Society of Industrial Security; International Trade Club of Greater Kansas City; the International Alliance Club; UMKC, Center for International Business, MBA Workshop Series Seminars; and the International Who’s Who of Professionals.

Mike leaves behind his wife, Peggy; two sons—James (Moira), of Alexandria, Virginia; and John (Anna Marie), of Fairfax, Virginia—and four precious granddaughters (Daphne, Zoe, Fiona, and Katrina).
