Michael A. Kearny, 54, of Olathe, KS., passed away February 10, 2009. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 4:30 P.M., Sunday, February 15, 2009 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 3:00 P.M., Sunday in the chapel. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Michael was born January 16, 1955, in New Orleans, La to Frank and Mary Francis Kearny. He was a graduate of Kansas State University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. His career included Trust Investments in the financial industry, several entrepreneurial endeavors and was a board member in the Family Business, J.B. Levert Land Company. Inc. in New Orleans, La. Mike had a passion for sailing, a love for all things in nature and an uncanny ability to create something out of nothing.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and brother-in-law Bob Kibble. Mike is survived by his wife, Blanche Kearny of 26 years, brother Frank Kearny and wife Kim of Neenah, Wisconsin, sister Mathilde Kearny-Kibble of Sydney Australia, sister Annette Stoerman and husband John of Overland Park, Kansas, Father-in-Law, Dub Berry of Lenexa, Ks., Sister and Brother-in-Laws, Judy and Mike Spafford of Lenexa, KS, Bill and Lisa Berry of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Step Mother, Margaret Jo Kearny of Olathe, Ks, Step Brother-in-law Bruce and his wife Mary Williams and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mike asked to express his sincere gratitude to the many friends, family and medical professionals whose kindness and compassion made his journey easier.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741, www.bestfriends.org. Mike lived his life with the same philosophy as Best Friends that kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us.
