Michael W Murray, 70, of Leawood, Kansas went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, November 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born on July 9, 1947 in Chariton, Iowa. He graduated from Newton High School in 1965 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1966. He served on the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Bon Homme Richard for two tours in the Vietnam War.
After he returned home, he worked at Hy-Vee in several capacities and was very successful in his 35 years with the company, including serving on the Board of Directors. Even after retirement, his good buddies would always say "don't ask Mike a question about Hy-Vee as it would always turn into a 2 hour monologue". He was a Hy-Vee man from age of 16 until his passing.
Mike married Janis I. Ashburn on October 1, 1966. Of this union, two children were born: Michelle W. Murray and Michael W. Murray, Jr. On April 18, 1998, he married his current wife Marsha K. Murray. In retirement, they loved to travel, play golf and enjoy their grandchildren. With their home in Las Vegas, they were able to escape the cold winters here in Kansas and played golf all year around. There were not too many places around the world that they did not visit as well as many golf trips with their friends from the Lions Gate Golf Course.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maxine, his brother George, his sister Elizabeth, his daughter Michelle, and his step-son Danny. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Murray, son Michael (Jody) W. Murray, Jr., Step-daughters Julie (Michael) Yarbrough and Sherry Weaver and grandchildren Shannon (Cody), Brendan, Caitlin, Noel, Sydney, Madison, Nick, Jake, Molly, Hanna, and Eathan and great grandchildren Grace and Oliver.
On Wednesday, November 8, a visitation will be held from 11 am to 12 pm at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in the Wesley Chapel, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224, with memorial service to follow. Mike will be laid to rest in Chariton, Iowa.
