Michael Reza Olyaee

Michael Reza Olyaee of Overland Park, KS passed away on March 7th, 2023. Michael was born on April 24th, 1982 in Tehran, Iran to Mojtaba (Moji) and Maryam Olyaee. At age 7, Michael moved with his family to the United States, eventually settling in Overland Park, where he grew up and eventually made his home as an adult. He was a gentle and devoted son to his parents, a supportive older brother to his sister, Lilly, and a loving partner to his longtime girlfriend Lauren Galle.

Michael had a sharp intellect. An avid history buff, he spent his upbringing devouring documentaries and books on any historical era - a hobby he eventually pursued as a major at the University of Kansas. His love for history was rivaled only by his love for KU basketball and Kansas City Chiefs and he was a long-time season ticket holder. Michael deeply appreciated music, and he seized any opportunity to show support for the arts by attending concerts and live shows, and on occasion, acting as back-up DJ for social events. He was loved by many for his sincerity, his gentle demeanor, and his sense of humor. Those who knew him were truly lucky.

Michael is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Seyed Reza Olyaee and Mansoureh Mollamohammad, and his maternal grandfather, Seyed Khalil Oliyai and paternal uncles, Mostafa and Amir.
Michael is survived by his father, Dr. Moji Olyaee, mother, Maryam Olyaei, sister, Lilly Olyaei Brand (Andrew), nieces Chloe, Lauren, and Taylor Brand, and nephew Sandy Brand, his maternal grandmother, Tayeb Delnavaz and many extended family.

There will be a funeral service on Sunday, March 12th with visitation from 12-1:30 pm and services beginning at 2 pm, all at Johnson County Funeral Chapel in Overland Park, KS. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
