Michael Alan Phillips, 43, of Olathe, Kansas passed away September 4, 2013, at his home after suffering a fatal heart attack.
Michael was born on November 3, 1969 in Kansas City, Kansas, three minutes before his identical twin brother Scott. Michael spent most of his adolescent life in Republic, Missouri. He loved everything about the Ozarks region, including the people there. He liked to fish, hunt and play school sports. It was there that he developed a life lasting respect and love of all animals. He could never pass by an injured animal or bird, or tolerate the abuse or neglect of a pet. He was a very gentle, loving and kind hearted person who spent more time thinking of others than himself.
Michael was Saved and Baptized at First Baptist Church of Republic in 1979. He graduated from Republic High School in 1988, where he was a friend to many and excelled in baseball. He developed a special interest in motorsports after high school that remained with him throughout his adult life. He owned and raced stock cars for over a decade in the southwest Missouri region.
Michael moved to Olathe, Kansas in 1998, where he (along with his brother Scott) built, owned and operated Proformance Oil Express, an automotive service center in Olathe, Kansas. On April 9, 1999, the Lord blessed Michael with a beautiful baby daughter, Sydney Ann Phillips, who was his pride and joy. Michael met Kendra Key of Kansas City, Kansas in 2003 at a local speedway. They began dating immediately and were married on July 5, 2007. They enjoyed many of the same activities of motorsports, wildlife and a furry little four pound dog named Bella, who was their constant companion.
Michael, who was known affectionately as "Mikey" by his heart sick family is survived by his wife Kendra Phillips, of the home in Olathe, Kansas, his daughter, Sydney Ann Phillips of Olathe, his twin brother Scott also of Olathe, his parents Marsha and Gary Phillips of Overland Park, Kansas and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mikey's absence will leave a tremendous void in the family, who feels blessed to have had him in their lives.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 8, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30 PM, Saturday, September 7th, also at the chapel. Private entombment will take place in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
