Michael Reecht

February 5, 1946 — December 17, 2022

Overland Park

Michael G. Reecht was welcomed into heaven on December 17, 2022 after a brief illness.

Mike was born on February 5,1946 to Raymond and Irene (Dallas) Reecht in Crystal City, MO. Mike graduated from St. Pius X High School where he excelled in basketball, baseball and football, became an Eagle Scout, a member of the National Honor Society, and Student Council President. Mike went on to study business at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, and later earned his MBA from the University of Michigan.

Mike worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company before moving to AT&T at divestiture, where he was the Director of Government Affairs for the state of Kansas. After he retired from corporate work, he went into contract lobbying with the Kansas Legislature.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Irene Reecht, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Suzi; son Chris (Jenni) Reecht of Overland Park, KS; daughter Carrie (Will) Votypka of Overland Park, KS; four adoring granddaughters Ashley, Ellie, Maggie, and Charlotte; sibling Ken (Sherry) Reecht of St. Louis, MO.  He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends and neighbors whom he dearly loved.

In retirement, Mike worked at Hy-Vee where he was able to bring smiles to the community.

He filled his days with meticulous yardwork, golfing, fishing, playing cards, attending his granddaughters various sporting events, cheering on the Royals and the Chiefs, traveling and spending time with his many friends.

Mike was a dedicated husband, a loving father, and a doting grandpa. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and when he was sharing his gift of kindness. Mike knew no strangers. He was a man that made everybody feel like somebody. He was selfless. He was kind. He was full of light and joy. He was honest, humble and brave. His smile was infectious. He was pure love. He was amazing. To each of us who were blessed to have spent time with Mike, he will be deeply missed.

His family was his heart, golfing was his passion, and his love of life was his legacy.
