Michael Shane Smoker, 42, passed away July 14, 2016. He was born April 9, 1974, the son of Carl L. and Sandra K. (Bare) Smoker. Mike was an analytical chemist working for the FDA, where he was nationally acclaimed for a method that he developed during the melamine crisis. He had a passion for his family, to help people as well as for astronomy, caving and inventing. Mike chose to donate his organs to serve others in need, which ended up saving many lives. Mike was a very special person who readily gave of himself and his talents, touching the lives of many. Preceding him in death was his father-in-law, Thomas K. Shaw. Survivors include his wife, Juliane B. (Shaw) Smoker, son, Benjamin Thomas Smoker, his parents, grandmother, Esther B. Smoker, sister, Kim Hoover and husband Mike and his mother-in-law, Janet M. Shaw. Visitation will be from 6-7 PM Tuesday, July 19th with a celebration of life following at 7 PM at Johnson County Chapel.
