MICHAEL G. STEVENS 64, Lenexa, KS, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, May 20, 2012. He was born March 10, 1948 in Souix City, IA the son of Edward and Agnes (Berning) Stevens. He grew up and attended schools in Wichita, KS.
Michael was united in marriage to Joey Clem on May 29, 1969. They shared over forty years of marriage before the death of his wife in 2010. From this union two loving children were born, Michael and Brian. Michael spent the last two years being cared for by his sister, Mary Jean and brother-in-law, Mike Moman in Wichita.
He was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa, Kansas. He enjoyed golfing with family and friends. His best game took place at Coeur d' alene, Idaho, where he shot a 79. He had a long career with Helzberg Jewelry Stores.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joey; grandchildren, Michael and Mason; a great-granddaughter, Mia Marie Cormier; and a brother-in-law, Forest Jensen.
Surviving family includes, two sons, Michael Stevens and his wife, Tina of Louisburg, KS and Brian Stevens and his wife, Melissa of Olathe, KS; six grandchildren, Zach, Ashley, Charissa, Brandon, Kelsey, and Nick; three brothers, Ed and wife, Kim, Gerard and wife, Nan, and Phil and wife, Janet; five sisters, Cecilia Manzardo and husband, Flip, Barbara Jensen; Mary Jean Moman and husband, Mike, Judy Clapper and husband, Skip, Paulinda Wynn and husband, Pat; and numerous nieces; nephews and cousins.
Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Stone Chapel, 13600 W. 92nd Street, Lenexa, KS 66215. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. followed by visitation till 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church or to Kansas City Hospice House.
