Michael Leon Vernon Sr.,55, passed away on May 23rd, 2023. Michael was born in Denton, TX, to Walter L. Vernon Sr. and Patsy A. Folsom. Michael was the baby brother to Ylonda J. Brock and Walter L. Vernon Jr. Michael grew up in Pilot Point, TX, where he learned to love the game of football before he began his career in construction at a very young age. Michael worked his way up the ladder through hard work and dedication to become a superintendent for the last 25 years of his life. He grew to know so many people all over the map through work, he has made a very good name for himself, being widely known and respected all over the Kansas City area. Michael spent his free time taking cruises in his prized possession, his dune buggy. Many people of Olathe and even surrounding towns recognized him, his loud motor and bright lights. Michael was a youth football coach and part of sportsmanship at KC Football and Cheerleading where he loved and influenced so many young men for 10 years. Earning the nickname “Coach Mike”, that has stuck with him still till this day. If you knew Michael you knew his children and grandchildren were his life, he loved and spoiled them to no end. Michael was a man of few words but the ones he spoke had volume. He left a mark on everyone he met, you couldn’t help but to love him. He will be deeply missed by so many but he is forever in our hearts. Michael is survived by his Mother, Patsy A. Folsom of Olathe, KS; Sister, Ylonda J. Brock of Overland Park, KS; Brother Walter L. Vernon Jr. of Grand Prairie, TX; Wife Jennifer J. Vernon of Olathe, KS; Daughters: Kayla N. Vernon of Excelsior Springs, MO, Mikenzie L. Vernon of Dennard, AR, Kortnie D. Vernon of Brooksville, FL and Kenadi B. Vernon of Russell, KS; Only Son, Michael L. Vernon Jr. of Olathe, KS. Grandchildren Aleigha D. Young, Liliana J. Urich, Amiyah G. Hedquist, Waylon M. Parker, Landry R. Vernon, and Niece Lanaye Brock. Michael is preceded in death by his father Walter L. Vernon Sr. and grandson Brantley C. Vernon.
