Mrs. Middo Violeen Garr Stone

Middo Violeen Garr Stone, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas died peacefully at home on December 2, 2010.
After cremation, a memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Kansas on December 11, at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend D. J. Williamston officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel of Independence.
The family suggests memorial remembrances be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 200 S. Penn, Independence, KS 67301-0545.
Middo was born February 4, 1919 in Independence, Kansas to Lewis and Nancy Grace (Talbert) Garr. On July 12, 1942 she married James LeRoy Stone at the Broadway United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. They reaffirmed their wedding vows there in 1992 in celebration of their 50th anniversary. The couple originally met in Independence, moved to Fredonia in1948 and moved to Coffeyville in 1958 before retiring and returning to Independence in 1971. The Stones lived on 17th Place in Independence for 35 years. Since 2006, Middo has lived in Overland Park, Kansas.
Middo attended Independence High School, Independence Junior College and took continuing education classes from Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas. She taught at Crane Station, Larimer, and District #58 schools in Independence before teaching in Fredonia. She then became an assistant to the Principal at Independence Junior High. Later she taught piano in Coffeyville and worked for the Citizens National Bank of Independence.

She was active in The First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Art Council, Friends of the Library, Monday Music Club, Triad Club, Christian Women’s Brunch, Chapter EF P.E.O. and served on the Community Concert Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother. Survivors include a son, James Lory Stone and wife, Tamara, of Overland Park, Kansas and granddaughters, Lory Stone and husband Ivan Marin-Soler of Silver Spring, Maryland and Lisa Licause and husband Chris of Centennial, Colorado.
