Michael Patrick Russell, 58, passed peacefully in his home October 31, 2019 following a lengthy battle with Lyme disease. He leaves his brother Steve Russell and wife Dawn of Arvada, Colorado; Brother John Russell and wife Meredith of Norfolk, Virginia; Sister Erin (Russell) Hall and husband Brian of Kansas City, Missouri; and Stepmother Vicki Russell of Riverside, Mo; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Noel F Russell, Patricia A (Waters) Russell and infant brother Jeffrey Russell.
Mike graduated High School at Bishop Ohara in 1979. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering & Technology through Missouri Institute of Technology in 1982. Through various positions at King Radio and Bendix/King he moved on to land his dream job at Garmin. While at Garmin, Mike made many significant contributions to multiple Garmin products. He worked for Garmin until his retirement in 2011. He was always passionate about cinema electronics and enjoyed working with their sound systems as well as heating and cooling. This joy kept him working at Ranch Mark Four Theatres and Bannister Mall 5 Cinemas for much of his career.
Mike was passionate about his family and friends and gave of himself generously to others. He was a man of integrity and hard work. He gave generously to many local and international non-profit organizations. His hobbies throughout the years included music, broadcasting, weather, biking and volleyball. He was a constant presence at volleyball beach in Martin City. He enjoyed predicting weather for the games, playing on many teams and developed a strong interest in the winterdome.
Visitation will be from 1-2:00 pm Wednesday November 6th at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm. Memorial Contributions may given in Mike's name to the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society at www.ilads.org
