Mildred "Mil" Anderson, 90, died peacefully on Easter Sunday surrounded by family. She was born Mildred Fabian Clare on January 17th, 1923 in Braintree, Massachusetts, where her father's family settled upon emigrating from Ireland in 1880. Beautiful young Mildred was swept off her feet by handsome serviceman Arvid "Andy" Anderson. They married in 1944 and lived in Monterey, CA while Andy was stationed at Fort Ord, CA. After settling in Simi Valley, CA they attended St. Rose of Lima Church and raised their family. Mil then worked for State Farm in accounting for 20 years before retiring. She loved her family, gardening and was an avid reader. Mil was a devoted wife and mother who filled our lives with so much love. She was kind and gentle with smiling 'Irish' eyes, a song in her heart, a sense of humor, and a loving spirit. We will deeply miss her!
Her husband of 56 years preceded her in death in 2000. She then moved to Kansas City following Andy's death to live with daughter Clare. Mildred is survived by her three children, their spouses, and their children: Jim and wife Terry Anderson of Austin, TX, Clare and husband Dr. Mark Romain of Lenexa, KS, Bill and wife Cindy Anderson of Ojai, CA. Six grandchildren: Lisa, Jeremy, Suzanne, Aaron, Rich, and John, and 2 great grandchildren: Olivia and Lena. She also left behind a very special friend, Sally Elkins.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday April 4, 2013 at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 8801 Nall Road, Prairie Village, KS. Friends may visit with family during the hour prior to the service. Donations may be made in her memory to Children's Therapeutic Learning Center (childrenstlc.org). We deeply appreciate the loving care of many caregivers at Garden Terrace and Heartland Hospice.
