CARL M. KENT
Carl M. Kent , 76 , Linn Valley Kansas passed away July 28,2010. He was born December 26, 1933 to Letha ( Hurley) and Carl Fay Kent in Kansas City, Missouri. Carl attended Central High School in KC prior to joining the US Navy in 1951. He worked commercial construction prior to retiring in 1992 and was a member of Concrete Finishers Union 1290. Carl married the love of his life , Laura ( Oxley Thommen) Scrivner December 12, 1979. Carl and Laura worked, laughed and raised kids and grandkids in Spring Hill Kansas prior to moving to Linn Valley in 2005. Together they made PERFECK Grandparents and Carl was affectionately known in three Kansas counties as “Grandpa” . He was an active member of La Cygne Christian Church and the Outpost Texas Hold ‘Em Club . He loved music especially gospel and country and wrote several songs, one he wrote to his wife and had sung on two of their anniversary celebrations and a song to his Savior which his worship team sang with him at his church. He loved people, and he saw the good in everyone. His quick wit ,sense of humor, and loving spirit will be forever treasured by those blessed to know him. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Solomon Kent , son Paul Thommen, and brother in law Jim Gumminger. Carl is survived by his wife Laura , brother Al Kent ( Diana), sisters Carlene Gumminger, Shirley Fares( Al) , children Paul Golding( Fonda) , Donie Kent ( Julie) , Cathy Kellengsworth , Donna Skinner, Nicki Pierce ( George) , Ramona Riley ( Gordon) , Vernon Scrivner ( Denise) , Brad Scrivner ( Kelley) , 32 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren . Grandpa leaves behind his #1 nurse and best pup , Gabby Lou . Grandpa’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service at LaCygne Christian Church LaCygne Kansas on Friday July 30 from 6-7pm . Funeral Saturday July 31 with viewing visitation 9:30 am , service 10:00 am at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210, (913) 451-1860. Internment following service at Johnson County Memorial Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to Grady’s Kids 402 Park Ave. La Cygne Ks. 66040 ,a local non-profit which helps injured and sick children .
