MYRNA C. EIGENMAN

Myrna C. Eigenman, 73, passed away peacefully at her home on December 2, 2010. Myrna was the eldest child of George and Maurene Collins. Born in Detroit, Michigan on July 25, 1937, she and her family soon moved to Topeka where Myrna spent a lot of time on the farm with Grandaddy Sherm and Aunt Laura. After moving to Kansas City, she graduated from Paseo High in 1955. While at Kansas City University (now called UMKC), she met the love of her life, Gail B. Eigenman in Chemistry class when he asked if she was "Crazy Shirley". She told him she most certainly was not, and three years later, after graduating with a degree in Home Economics and spending weekends watching him drag race, they were married on August 25, 1958. They celebrated 52 years of marriage in 2010 at their summer home at the lake. Myrna was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, where she served as President, and later as President of the Kansas City Alumni Chapter. After graduating college she worked at the Gas Service Company for three years and then taught elementary school until her daughter, Georgia, was born. Afterward, she substituted occasionally. By the time her daughter Liz was born, Myrna was busy being Room Mom, CCD teacher, and Campfire Troop Leader. She also spent time managing rental properties, campaigning for local political candidates, and enjoying tennis, golf, bridge, and playing Mahjong. She had many friends, and made new ones easily. Myrna had the gift of gab and a warm spirit that drew people to her wherever she went. Myrna leaves behind her spouse, Gail; her children Georgia Fuchs and Liz Hazell; her sons-in-law George Fuchs and Devon Hazell; grandchildren Kasey and Kaela Fuchs, and Logan and Samantha Hazell; her brother Keith Collins and his wife Sarah; her sister Jackie McQueary, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends who loved her dearly. Visitation will be 6-8pm on Monday, December 6th. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 7th at 1pm. All services will be at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Funeral Home Chapel at 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. The family requests donations to be made to St. Luke's Hospice at 4225 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City MO, 64111 in her memory. "A mother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take." Arrangements: D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 913-451- 1860.
