NANCY HAMPTON FISS
Nancy H. Fiss, 78, of Leawood, KS a devoted wife, mother & grandmother of 10 loving grandchildren, passed away Sunday, July 25th, 2010. A memorial service will be held at the Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral at 13th Street & Broadway, Kansas City, MO on Wednesday, July 28th at 2pm.
She was born Nancy Lou Hampton on July 18th, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to Auby & Dr. Ralph J. Hampton. Nancy was a life-long resident of Kansas City and was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Galen R. Fiss.
Nancy was a graduate of the Shawnee Mission High School, Class of 1950 and a graduate of the University of Kansas in 1954 where she earned a degree in Occupational Therapy. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta at KU and later went on to serve on the Theta Alumni Board. While attending KU she met the love of her life, Galen.
Nancy worked in Occupational Therapy at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, she also volunteered in the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was an active member of the Junior League of Kansas City and a long time member at Milburn Golf & Country Club. Nancy had a wonderful appreciation for the arts and volunteered as a docent at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. She also had been a life long member of the Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City and Christ Episcopal Church in Overland Park.
Nancy & Galen leave behind three children; daughter, Leslie Gale Fiss Young & husband Duane F. Young of Leawood, son Robert Brian Fiss & wife Kimberly A. Fiss of Prairie Village, and son Scott Hampton Fiss & wife Amy S. Fiss of Leawood. Grammi adored her 10 wonderful grandchildren Christopher & Abigail Young, Alexandra, Kelsie, Galen Barret & Jacob Fiss, Caroline, Suzanne, Lauren & Bronwyn Gale Fiss. They will all miss Grammi’s hugs.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy has requested donations in honor of her husband, Galen, be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Heart of America Chapter, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208 or www.alz.org/kansascity.
