Nancy Louise Gordon passed away on August 31, 2024 at her home. During her nearly 78 years of life Nancy was an includer, constantly drawing people together; an achiever, always getting things done; and an activator, impatient to do things now rather than later – an impulse questioned from time to time by her husband, Gary, of 56 years. Nancy loved conversation, constant reading, and a love of books that led to pursuing a master’s degree in library science and a career as a school library media specialist, first at Shawnee Mission South and Shawnee Mission Northwest libraries. Following a break to raise two children, she served as a library media specialist at Morse Elementary School in the Blue Valley School District. Nancy loved her work, and she loved her work with the children at Morse Elementary. While not necessarily a convenor of groups, Nancy helped hold groups together whether family, friends, or colleagues. Many people will miss her conversations. Nancy was a fighter, having battled Parkinson’s for nearly 31 years. A mainstay of her last nine years was Rock Steady Boxing at the Parkinson’s Exercise and Wellness Center in Overland Park.
Nancy is survived by her children, Sean Gordon and Elizabeth Martinez, and four grandchildren, Olivia, Nikolas, Sofia, and Aleksander. Nancy’s surviving siblings include Laura Evans, Dwight Young, Janet Tracy and Larry Young. Nancy’s cousins -- Gerald Hower, Pat Thompson, Denise Everhart, Sharon Kirkendall, and Doug Hower, were close as children and important to her as adults.
