Nancy Jo Harshany, 77 of Lenexa, Kansas left her earthly home and entered her heavenly home on Tuesday January 8 th , 2019 at the Kansas City Hospice House.
She was born on January 30, 1941 in Granite City, Illinois to Victor and Marie Szymcek. On October 6 th , 1962 she married Ronald Harshany of Madison, Illinois. Soon after which they moved to Kansas and then later on to Minnesota and eventually back to Lenexa, Kansas where they have been residents since 1977. Throughout her life Nancy held various employment positions but eventually retired from Clinical Reference Laboratory located in Lenexa, Kansas.
More than anything Nancy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to travel including a trip to England where she toured Buckingham Palace. She was an avid sewer spending time sewing and making clothes which she wore and displayed. She was also a devoted Elvis Presley fan for many years. And spent time every year decorating her home during the holidays which she took great pride in. Nancy had a very unique personality that was always sure to light up the room and she never knew a stranger. She prized her beloved make up bag and her ability to command fashion.
Not only was Nancy a loving and devoted wife for 57 years, but she was also a mother, Grandma, sister, and daughter. She is proceeded by death by her parents Victor and Marie Szymcek, her brother Joseph Szymcek, and sisters, Barbara Duffin and Judith Szymcek. She is survived by her husband Ronald Harshany of Lenexa, Kansas, and sister Janice Groboski and husband John of Bonne Terre, Missouri, sister Elizabeth Szymcek of Granite City, Illinois, brothers Victor Szymcek of Herrin, Illinois and Tony Szymcek of Oregon. Sons Jeffery Harshany of Lenexa, Kansas, Patrick Harshany of Virginia, and daughter Laura Shea and husband Scott of Wellsville, Kansas. Grandchildren to include Tyler Moore (U.S. Navy, active duty) and Rylee Shea of Wellsville, Kansas.
Visitation service will be held on Sunday January 13 th , 2019 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens located at 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas 66210. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 14 th , 2019 at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church located at 13615 W. 92 nd Street, Lenexa, Kansas 66215 followed by a gravesite service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens located at 13901 S. Blackbob St, Olathe, Kansas 66062.
