Nancy Patrick

March 22, 1943 — July 8, 2016

Nancy Jane Patrick, 73, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016.  She was born March 22, 1943, in Wilmette, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Lewis) Thomas.  She grew up in the Ft. Madison, Iowa area then relocated to Kansas City in 1961.   She began her career at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center where she was a Dietary Supervisor.  She received her Paralegal degree from Johnson County Community College in 1987.   She retired after many years with the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office in the position of Warrant Officer.  In retirement, Nancy volunteered with Compassionate Ear.   She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching Wimbledon Tennis, KU Basketball, Kansas City Chiefs, and the KC Royals.  She played racquetball and loved her animals.

Throughout the years, she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in their various activities.  Nancy was spunky and always ready for the next adventure.  There was never a dull moment with her brother and sister by her side . . . that Thomas laughter was legendary!  She shared many happy times with her friends from the Good Samaritan Olathe Towers and loved spending time with the Wednesday Lunch Bunch girls.  We will all miss her and her generous, loving spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents.  Family meant everything to Nancy, and her survivors include her son David E. Hootman (Kelly), and their children, Colby, Shelby and Jared.  Daughter Tracy Hootman, and son Martin R. Patrick, Jr. (Lisa), and his children Christopher Reihle and Ashley Anderson.   She also leaves her brother, Robert “Tom” Thomas Jr., sister, Ann Moeller (Brian), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends express enormous gratitude to Kansas City Hospice House for the compassionate care rendered to Nancy in her last days.

A celebration of life will be 1 PM, Sunday, July 24th at Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas, 66210, with a reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions are suggested to the Healing House, 4400 St. John, Kansas City, MO, 64123 or the Olathe Animal Shelter, 505 E. Sunvale St., Olathe, KS, 66061.
