Nancy Maxine (Wasson) Van Horn, age 79, of Leawood, KS, passed away on September 7,2017 at her home after a short illness from cancer. Nancy was born December 31, 1937 in Springfield, Missouri to Charles and Maxine Wasson. She was married to Raymond Earl “Mick” Van Horn for 40 years. She will be remembered with love and greatly missed by her children Ann-Michelle Sherman (John) of Andover, KS, Christopher Van Horn (Theresa) of Overland Park, KS and Lizabeth Breedlove (Gary) of Freeman, MO and six grandchildren Andrew Sherman, Madeline Sherman, Jeffrey Sherman, Christine Van Horn, Mick Van Horn and Peter Van Horn. She will also be missed by her sister Martha Bailey and many cousins. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Maxine Wasson and husband Raymond Earl “Mick” Van Horn.
She grew up in Springfield where she graduated from Springfield Central High School. After graduation she attended Southwest Missouri State University until she married her husband and moved to Kansas City.
Nancy was a passionate and competitive golfer who played at Meadowbrook Country Club and competed on city leagues. Her creative abilities shined through in her artistic works. She owned Cambridge House and painted on a variety of mediums including canvas, wood and silk to make samples for her business that featured fine and folk art. A favorite pastime was sewing and she made clothes and crafts for family and friends. She was also an accomplished musician. She played cello in high school and also for the Overland Park Orchestra. Playing classical music on the piano and listening to classical music were enjoyable activities.
She was devoted to and loved her children and grandchildren. Her laughter, sense of humor, generosity and love will be missed.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 13 from 9:30-10AM, service to begin at 10AM, at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave, Overland Park, KS. Graveside service will be at 3PM at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3056 N. National Ave., Springfield, MO 65803.
