Neomia Kay Hardin, age 69, of Shawnee and Overland Park , Kansas went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2008 at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center, peacefully with her children by her side.
Kay was born on December 11, 1938 in Kansas. Kay was the proud daughter of Ada and the late Clarence Hartman, and sister of Lyle and Bernard Hartman of Red Cloud, Nebraska. Kay was an accomplished dental hygienist and was married to the late Donald L. Hardin in Nebraska, then moved to Kansas City over forty years ago. The union produced three children, Brenda Sue Hardin Lewellan, Michael Hardin and Thomas Hardin, all students and athletes in the Shawnee Mission Schools. Donald and Kay Hardin were long term members of the Trinity Lutheran Church and practiced a life long example of incredible work ethics in church life, home life and professional life. Kay was a very active member of society and enjoyed numerous activities including, bowling leagues, tennis leagues, bridge leagues and helping the blind. She courageously battled Multiple Sclerosis most of her adult life and displayed strong faith, a loving and kind heart and tireless loyalty and love to her marriage and family. Kay became a resident of Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center and later battled breast cancer and other immense medical challenges. Kay's character, courage, dedication to her family and loyalty surfaced through the next fifteen years as she exceeded all medical expectations, predictions and likelihood for survival. Kay was loved by her family, friends and all who came to know her. She exhibited happiness and courage under any life circumstance and gladly accepted the challenges placed before her to support her family no matter what.
Kay is survived by her three children, their spouses and seven grandchildren. Doug and Brenda Lewallen and their children Lindsay, Lauren and Dalton Lewallen, Michael Hardin and his children Victoria and Jakob Hardin, Thomas Hardin and his wife Monica and his sons Thomas Jr. and Kobe Hardin.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5601 W. 62nd Street, Overland Park, KS on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A sincere thanks to all those who participated in the care of Kay from Shawnee Nursing and special thanks to Pam, Nana, Joyce, Ernie and Carita.
