Ngai Chi Woo (胡毅志), 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2020 in Leawood, KS.
Ngai was born on December 5, 1940 in Hong Kong, China to father Fai Woo (胡輝) and mother Lai Fong Fung (馮麗芳). He was the eldest of 5 siblings - Ngai, Grace (美琼), Ton Chiu (敦潮), Tun Oy (敦靄), Fiona (美珍).
At the age of 15, Ngai had no choice but to quit his studies at All Saints’ Middle School (聖公會諸聖中學) in order to support his family. He got his first job at China Can Company (康元製罐廠) as a trainee. While having a full time job, Ngai continued his education through evening courses. He later finished high school and passed the Chinese University of Hong Kong Matriculation Examination. Despite being admitted to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (香港中文大學) at that time, Ngai chose to give up that opportunity for his siblings due to the family's financial situation. Later on, Ngai advanced his career at Bristol-Myers Squibb (百時美施貴寶有限公司) as an Inventory Control Manager. He was well-liked at work with his kind and helpful personality as well as his knowledge and expertise for his job.
In 1977, Ngai was introduced to Sau Yin Chan (陳秀賢) by a relative. They fell in love and got married a year after. They raised two sons, Anthony (Man Kei 文基) and Ryan (Man Hei 文熹). In 2001, the family moved from Hong Kong to the United States where Ngai spent his retired life. In 2012, Ngai was baptized in Emmanuel Chinese Baptist Church and became a Christian.
Ngai was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Ton Chiu. His proudest accomplishment was being a dedicated, caring and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Sau, his children Anthony and Ryan, his daughters-in-law Magdalene and Ngai Nam, and his grandchildren Timothy, Emilie, and Hosanna.
