Nicola Juanita Morris Bittel, beloved mom, grandma, g-ma, and ma, 83, Olathe, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital.
Private family graveside services will be held Monday, October 20, 2008 in Frankfort, Kansas.
Nicola was born October 21, 1924 in Hamilton, Kansas. Her father was born in the Indian Territory, U.S.A. and she was extremely honored and proud of her Cherokee Indian ancestry. Her hobbies included ceramics and crocheting. She was famous for her afghans and potholders, one could never have to many potholders. Nicola was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. After graduating from Hamilton High School she moved to California and married her husband in 1944. She and her husband raised their children in Junction City, Kansas and moved to Overland Park in 1970.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John D. Bittel; 2 brothers; 1 sister; and 1 grandchild. Survivors include her son, J.D. Bittel, Jr. and wife Alberta; daughter, Nita (Nesi) Bittel Moden and husband Gary; grandchildren, Lisa Jo Bittel, Lexie Bittel Fiser and husband Marty, Jennifer Moden Beattie and husband Tom; great- grandchildren, Amber Jo Hall, Dax and Sloan Fiser, Krysta and Jack Beattie; and great-great-grandson Maverick Foster.
