Norma Sites

December 22, 1927 — December 22, 2010

Norma Lois Sites, 83, of Leawood, KS, passed away quietly at her home on Wednesday, December 22, 2010. A kind and gentle lady has just passed into the Lord’s hands.

Norma was born to Wade and Dorothy Johnson, July 21, 1927. She told many stories of living in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl days, walking from town to town with her dad as he searched for work. At an early age, both of her parents died and she was adopted by George and Laura Montgomery, living most of her life in the Kansas City area. After graduating from Central High School, she met and married her husband of over 60 years, Jack Sites. She raised her family and supported Jack in his car dealership business, Sites Brothers Chrysler-Plymouth.

After her family, her love was her home and garden, along with a love for animals. She had a particular fondness for strays, the uglier, the better! On one occasion, she nursed a pet duck with a broken leg back to recovery by fashioning a splint from two match sticks. Grandma was always there to dog sit any of the families’ pets when they were out of town.

Later in life, Norma found great pleasure and contentment in her family – children, grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. When her health began to fail and she had much difficulty in getting around, her goal was to be able to stay in her house. With true grit and determination, she did. Never ever to complain, Norma dealt with many struggles but seemed to make all situations ones of joy. Her generosity and unselfishness toward others is a legacy to all that knew her.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and son, Jackie.
She leaves her daughter, Kathy Swift, son-in-law Orin; grandsons, Jeff Swift, his wife Robin; Scott Swift, his wife Marcie; great grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Lauren, Kate Louise, and Caroline; as well as beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 2:30p.m. followed by the memorial service at 3:00p.m., Monday, Dec. 27, D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Animal Haven Shelter, 9800 W. 67th, Shawnee, KS 66203
