Norman Dale Baumgart, age 87, Overland Park, KS, died June 24th, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Memorial services will be held at 9:30am Monday, July 1st at Colonial United Church of Christ, 7039 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS.
Norm was born August 10, 1925 in Humphrey, NE and lived there until he moved to Lincoln. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Civil Engineering, and was a member of the Acacia Fraternity. Following graduation, he was drafted into the Army where he taught engineering at Fort Belvoir, VA. After leaving the service, Norm worked for the Portland Cement Association for 19 years; first in Chicago, IL, followed by Denver, CO, Helena, MT, and finally Kansas City. While in Helena, he served on the school board and was active in the local rotary club. Norm was an avid golfer and fisherman, and especially loved the mountains of Colorado and Montana. He moved to Overland Park in 1969 and became an active member of Colonial Church. After leaving PCA, Norm worked for The Lowell Press. Following retirement, Norm prepared taxes for H&R Block at their Metcalf South office for 16 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irene Baumgart, and brother Vern. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary; daughter Jackie Brewer (David); son Steve Baumgart (Caprice); three grandsons, Jeremy, Patrick, and Phillip; three granddaughters, Micah, April, and Allison; brother Myron (Louella) Baumgart; as well as many nieces and nephews. He loved his family, friends, and church; he always had a smile on his face. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Gruenebaum for Norm's wonderful care over the last 20 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colonial UCC or to Kansas City Hospice House.
