Nova Mae Gaines, 89, of Overland Park, KS, passed away June 24, 2013. Nova was born in Union, Arkansas, April 12, 1924. She was number 5 of 13 children. Nova was preceded in death by her parents: John Tollie Bowling and Mary Ethel Chadwick Bowling. Also her sister, Betty Sue Johnson and 4 brothers: Charles Porter Bowling, John Cecil Bowling, Coy Lee Bowling and Buddy Lamar Bowling. She is survived by her husband, Robert A. Gaines. Bob and Nova Gaines were married 64 years as of June 17, 2013. She is survived by 3 sisters: Frances Marie Holt, Ola Faye Veazey and Beatrice Nadine Rough and 4 brothers: Clarence Calvin Bowling, Shelby Lynn Bowling, James Bradley Bowling and Bobby Ray Bowling.
Their family includes 3 daughters; Jan and Ron Zelch of Overland Park, KS. Their children: Chris and Minna Zelch, Logan and Caleb of Palentine, IL. Becky and Brian Frazier, Katie, Matthew and Emma of Stromsburg, NE. Mandy and Nate Miller, Grayson and Beckett of Wichita, KS. Pam and Robert Russell of Manhattan, KS. Their children: Shorey Russell of Austin, TX. Robbie and Heather Russell, Victoria of Wichita, KS. Evan Russell of Manhattan, KS, Elizabeth Russell of Merrillville, IN. Sue and Randy Freeman of Overland Park, KS.
A memorial service will be held at Overland Park Presbyterian Church, 8029 Overland Park Dr., Overland Park, KS, on July 1, 2013 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the O.P. Presbyterian Church and Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114.
