Col. Oliver James (Jim) Cook, Jr., USAF Ret., 77, of Overland Park, KS passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2008.
Oliver (Jim) Cook was born February 2, 1930 in Kansas City, KS to the late Oliver James Cook and Melbourne Fields Cook. Following the death of his father during the 1930s, Col. Cook and his brother and sister were raised by his grandparents, James and Roxie Cook, who also precede him in death. Oliver (Jim) Cook, Jr. retired from the USAF after 29 years of active duty with the rank of Colonel and while Col. Cook enjoyed his military career, he cherished his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria and his brother Maj. Walter Thomas (Tom) Cook. Survivors include his sister Barbara Stevens and husband Gary of Lake Arrowhead, CA,Sons James E. Cook and wife, Toni of Lenexa, KS, Richard O. Cook and wife, Louise of Kansas City, MO, Randall A. Cook and wife Charlye of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Lauren M. Cook, Jared. E. Cook and Erin L. Cook, all of Lenexa, KS, and a brother-in-law Dr. Llewellyn V. Borgendale of Wamego, KS and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. The service will begin at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m.
