Opal was born on November 19, 1922, on a farm in Osborn, MO, to Edward England Hankins and Edna Turner (Moser) Hankins. She was active in 4H and church groups and worked on the farm with her two sisters and one brother. Chillicothe Business College was where she met her love, Charles Edgar Redhair. The devoted relationship they shared was visible to all who knew them. They were married on November 6, 1943, in Kansas City by a Justice of the Peace just before Charles left for active duty in World War II. As newlyweds, they moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where Charles was stationed in the Air Force. They eventually moved back to Kansas City and began their family. Opal worked as a secretary with TWA before having their 3 sons: Rex, Ed and Rick. Opal always was active in the community, PTA and Boy Scouts as the boys grew up. Later she was active with La Sertoma, Johnson County Christmas Bureau, Southridge Presbyterian Church, Southminister Presbyterian Church, garden clubs and several bridge groups. She was named La Sertoma's "Women of the Year" in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles; her parents; older sister, Sue; younger brother, Junior; and son, Rex.
She leaves one sister Lynelle (Bob) Kariger, two sons, Ed (Marlene) and Rick (Joan); grandchildren, Cara (Sean) Bryan, Matt (Annette), Katie (Jordan), Eric and Erin; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Gavin, Lauren and Charlie.
She will be held in our hearts as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Opal always had a smile and wise words to share. She made a lasting impression on many lives and will be remembered as "one classy lady'!
