Ora E. "Betty" Oliver Rosner
Betty, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home January 19, 2012 in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born in Dearborn, Missouri, December 20, 1919. She graduated valedictorian from Dearborn High School in 1937 and attended Maryville State Teacher College on her scholarship. She also attended Kansas City University. She began her working career as a nurse but had to retire due to progressive deafness.
She later worked at Sears Roebuck, Lake City Arsenal, Citizen State Bank, and Pratt-Whitney where she met and married Tom Rosner, August 27, 1945.
To this union three children were born, Thomas Jr of Haymarket, VA, Cheryl Caldarelli of Allentown, PA and Terrence of Overland Park. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, George Nicholas Oliver, who passed away when she was only three; her mother, Nellie Day Oliver; grandson, Nicholas George Caldarelli and one brother, George Oliver.
During the 66 years of marriage, Betty joined Tom in operating Bud and Betty Service Station in Wea Kansas for 12 years. She then followed him into insurance with assignments in Topeka, Kansas City, Aurora, Ill Merced, CA and Colorado Springs, CO. She made the most of these assignments by visiting all points of interest with the twenty state assignment areas.
Betty's talents were quilting, china painting, answering quiz show questions and playing "31" card games.
She was a lover of nature making certain her birds, squirrels and flowers were fed and watered.
She loved traveling, having visited all fifty states several times, and cruising the high seas almost 500 days and visiting 97 countries.
Most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always remembered their birthdays and Christmas. Pictures of her great-grandchildren entertained her by the hour.
Funeral arrangements are at Newcomers Chapel 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS with visitation on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Rosary recited at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church in Wea, Kansas at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012 with internment immediately following at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities Hospice, Holy Rosary Church or school.
Special thanks to the Catholic Charities Hospice members for their loving care during her last days. Also Monsignor Charles of Cure´ of Ars Church who saw to her spiritual needs.
