Orville Frank Matthies 95 of Prairie Village, KS, passed away on November 11, 2016

The funeral service will be held on Dec 2, at 10:00 AM at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church. Father Bill Bruning will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow the funeral at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors at 1:30 PM. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Johnson County Chapel & Memorial Gardens.

Orville was born in Buhler, KS on October 6, 1921.He graduated from Buhler High School and continued on to graduate from the School of Architecture from University of Kansas but he “never worked 1 day in an architect’s office”.

Orville was married to Rosemary P. Schroeder on March 12, 1953. They were married 53 years.
Orville joined the US Army during WWII and spent 2 years stationed in Peleliu, Palau Islands.  He joined the Marine Corps during Korea.  He was proud to have served his country.

Orville worked as a Project Engineer for Hercules Powder Company for 34 years. He also earned his Real Estate license along with many years of volunteer work for KCPT television and Shawnee Mission Medical Center where he received “Outstanding Volunteer” awards.

Orville truly was a Kansas Jayhawk and enjoyed watching both Men’s and Women’s basketball games.  He also enjoyed countless bingo games. He enjoyed visiting with all of his family and friends.  He was a true friend to the many people who knew him.

Orville is survived by his son Robert B. Matthies (Patty) of Battle Creek, MI, his daughter Sarah
A. Matthies of Olathe, KS, his daughter Mariann Haner (Kirk) of Liberty, MO, his son John R. Matthies (Diana) of Olathe, KS, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and family and friends.

Orville is preceded in death by his parents Frank F. Matthies and Sarah A. Matthies, his wife Rosemary P. Matthies, his daughter Carole Kauffman, his son Gregory M. Matthies, his brothers Milo M. Matthies and Kenneth E. Matthies.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Interim Hospice and Queen of the Holy Rosary.

The family of Orville Frank Matthies wishes to thank Overland Park Place (Big J, Tony and Madeleine) and the many staff members of Interim Healthcare for all of their fine support. Dick and Carolyn Pate for their friendship and Yvonne Hopkins for always being there for the family.
